Heater Maintenance in Santa Fe, NM
Helping You Keep Your Heater Working in Rio Arriba, Los Alamos & San Miguel Counties
Few things feel worse than being cold in your own home. When your heater stops working correctly, the discomfort can be hard to ignore. To avoid this frustration and ensure your heater performs its best, schedule regular maintenance with our Santa Fe heater repair team. Our technicians inspect your heater and address any issues, helping your system run efficiently all season.
Santa Fe’s winters often bring overnight lows well below freezing, putting local heating systems to the test. Regular maintenance becomes especially important in this region, as the combination of elevation and cold temperatures can stress older units and cause unexpected breakdowns. We address the climate challenges Santa Fe residents face and tailor our approach to support the long-term reliability of your heating equipment. As a family-owned business with over five decades serving the community, we deliver care, consistency, and clear communication when you need it most.

How Often Should I Have My Heater Serviced?
Every heating system differs, but we recommend scheduling maintenance once or twice a year. Regular heater maintenance in Santa Fe helps your system perform efficiently and reduces the risk of emergency repairs.
The National Fire Protection Association and many local building codes recommend annual inspections of heating systems, especially in areas with extended heating seasons, such as Santa Fe County. By prioritizing consistent service, residents can catch minor problems before they become costly or lead to an unexpected loss of heat on a cold winter night. Maintenance also supports better air quality and safety by ensuring vents, filters, and combustion components function properly. Our experience servicing homes across Santa Fe County gives us insight into the most common issues affecting heating systems in the region, and we deliver proactive, relevant care to every homeowner we serve.
You should schedule maintenance if:
- Your heater is over 5 years old
- Your heater makes unusual noises
- Your heater produces strange smells
- Your heater isn't keeping your home warm
During our maintenance visit, our technicians check your entire heating system to ensure everything functions as it should. If we find any problems, we explain your options so you can fix minor issues before they grow. We help you avoid costly repairs by providing honest assessments based on your system's needs.
Routine maintenance goes beyond addressing obvious concerns. We look for signs of wear, test for proper airflow, and verify that all safety controls operate correctly. In Santa Fe’s arid climate, dust and debris can accumulate in filters or vents more quickly than in other regions, making regular cleaning vital to your heater’s performance and your family’s comfort. With our preventive approach, you help protect your heating investment and extend its useful life while staying comfortable through every winter cold snap.
What’s Included in Our Heater Maintenance Service
We take a thorough approach to heater maintenance because homes in Santa Fe and the surrounding counties depend on their heating systems during winter. Our service focuses not only on keeping your heater running, but also on maximizing its performance and lifespan through attentive care. During a scheduled maintenance appointment, we examine every key component of your system to help you avoid costly surprises and stay comfortable all season.
Each maintenance visit typically covers:
- System inspection: We check the unit for signs of damage, leaks, wear, or corrosion so you catch issues early.
- Filter replacement & cleaning: Your heater works less efficiently if dust or debris restricts airflow. We make sure filters allow maximum airflow for both comfort and energy savings.
- Thermostat calibration: Precise thermostat settings help your system maintain ideal temperatures without waste.
- Electrical and safety checks: Our technicians test controls and safety devices to reduce the risk of faulty wiring or malfunctions.
- Lubrication: We ensure moving parts run smoothly, reducing strain and extending the lifespan of your unit.
- Performance testing: Checking heat output at various settings ensures the system delivers the comfort you expect.
By following a detailed checklist for Santa Fe County homes, we provide repair and maintenance recommendations tailored to our regional climate, building codes, and customer expectations. This thorough process also helps identify ways to save on utility bills and prevents surprise breakdowns when temperatures drop quickly. Families rely on Capitol Contractors for consistent, attentive service and straightforward communication every step of the way.
FAQs
How can I tell if my heater needs professional maintenance?
If your heater runs less efficiently, makes unusual noises, produces odd odors, or fails to keep your home warm, it’s time for maintenance. Heaters that cycle on and off more often than usual or cause higher utility bills may also signal the need for a tune-up.
What happens if I skip regular heater maintenance?
Skipping maintenance increases your risk of sudden breakdowns, reduced heating efficiency, and higher energy bills. Over time, lack of care can shorten your unit’s lifespan and may even void warranties or create safety concerns.
Does Santa Fe County require any specific heater maintenance regulations?
Santa Fe County follows building codes that require annual inspections and proper maintenance of heating units, especially those with combustion engines or in multi-family properties. Following these guidelines helps with safety, code compliance, and insurance validation for homeowners. Always consult a professional for the most current local requirements.

"Excellent work"Our heat went out late Saturday night - We called Capitol Plumbing and the crew, two men, Xavier and Alex, were here early Sunday morning. The furnace was removed and by 6:00 pm the new furnace was up and working - The heat was on and the house warmed up quite fast. Xavier and Alex were friendly and worked very efficiently replacing the old furnace. They were very helpful and informative and explained everything about the new furnace and answered all our questions. When crew had completed the job, they waited until the temperature was up to the degrees necessary for furnace to work. Thank you for a job well-done and I would recommend Capitol Plumbing and Heating in Santa Fe to anyone who needs plumbing work done. Thank you, we are once again warm and cozy.- Pauline Rindone

"Emergency service was also quick and efficient and very Professional."Xavior, arrived at a much needed time to fix our leak. He was fast to detect the leak and addressed the situation in a professional manner. It was late and after hours but he was not hurried and explained what happened, what he did and what has yet to be done. If you are not using them or need good service we recommend them, they responded among the many we tried to reach, so they will have our business for some time to come. Thank you for relieving our problem and minds.- Ed Silba

"Service with humor!"After being stood up by another plumber we called Paul's Plumbing & Heating, Inc. They contacted Xavier and Beto from Capitol Plumbing and Heating who fixed our outdoor faucet, which would not turn off. Xavier explained everything and showed us the process. He was professional, witty, and patient with my questions. I highly recommend them and am also impressed Paul's Plumbing contacted them since they didn't have any available crews. Both companies have customers' best interests in mind.- Jill

"Very happy with Xavior and Capitol"My kitchen sink x2 was hopelessly plugged up. Filthy water that had backed up was just sitting there. That is so unhealthy. I called Capitol this morning and they said they'd send out a serviceman in a couple of hours, which they did. Xavior came by and did a great job. He was polite, knowledgeable, smart and neat....no mess left behind for me! And best of all, the drains are running perfectly! Capitol has also installed my furnace and water tank, all within the last year or so (3/2021). And I am VERY pleased with that result as well....thanks to Adrian for that....great job.- Xavior did a great job

"$1200.00"Both Tomas and Xavier Martinez were prompt and courteous. They went beyond what was a leaking hot water valve. After replacing the valve and water line hose, they checked the boiler system and found it was not properly operating and took care of it for us. We were thankful for their thoroughness and quick service.- Dave Wilkison

"Excellent friendly knowledgeable service."Had them install a complete new system for heating water and and radiant heat system. Went to a tankless hot water system. They worked very efficiently and wasted no time installing the system. Workers were friendly and explained everything about the equipment and answered my questions since I was not familiar with the tankless hot water system and the radiant heat used in homes. They hauled away the old tank and boiler and a soft water system that was out dated. It took about two days but the water was only off for part of the first day and we had hot water that night for showering. Over all a very positive experience and I would highly recommend Capitol Plumbing & Heating of Santa Fe for all your plumbing needs.- Rod
