Drain Repair Services in Santa Fe
Family-Owned Drain Repair for Santa Fe Homes Since 1968
At Capitol Contractors, we’ve been helping Santa Fe residents solve plumbing and drain problems since 1968. As a family-owned business, we approach every job with honest pricing, genuine care, and a commitment to doing the work right. Whether you’re dealing with a slow sink, a foul odor, or a backed-up sewer line, you’ll get straightforward answers and reliable repairs from a team your neighbors have trusted for over 55 years.
Drain repair isn’t just about clearing a single clog. It means understanding the full plumbing system to find what’s actually causing the problem. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to inspect your drainage network, identify underlying issues, and address them before minor trouble becomes a major repair. That proactive approach saves time and helps keep costs down.
Experiencing slow drains or unpleasant odors? Contact Capitol Contractors, your trusted provider of drain repair services in Santa Fe, and let our team diagnose and resolve the issue today!
How We Diagnose & Repair Drain Problems
When we arrive, we start by asking about your plumbing history and any changes you’ve noticed around fixtures, flooring, or walls. From there, we use drain cameras, augers, and hydro-jetting equipment to pinpoint the cause and choose the least invasive repair method available. Common structural causes of drain failure include cracked lines leaking wastewater, tree root intrusion, and blockages from collapsed or bellied pipe sections. Drain cleaning removes buildup and clogs. Drain repair addresses damage inside the pipe itself. Depending on what the inspection reveals, both may be needed.
Santa Fe homes range from historic adobe structures to newer construction, and each type calls for a different approach. We adjust our methods to respect your property, comply with New Mexico building codes, and protect finishes and landscaping throughout any necessary work. Older properties may contain piping materials or configurations that need to be brought up to current standards, and we can explain exactly what that means during your estimate. It’s also worth knowing that Santa Fe’s caliche soil and clay layers can create hydrostatic pressure against buried sewer line joints during wet-dry cycles, which can stress pipes over time.
When underground lines are involved, we locate other utilities before starting and discuss options such as trenchless methods when appropriate. In some cases, we can rehabilitate an existing line rather than replace it entirely, helping you preserve mature landscaping and hardscaping. We also advise homeowners on how seasonal temperature swings and heavy summer monsoon rains can affect drainage and what steps can reduce the risk of backups. Chemical drain cleaners may offer temporary relief, but they can damage pipe walls over time and aren’t a substitute for a proper inspection and repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Know If I Need Drain Repair?
Slow-draining sinks, unpleasant odors, and frequent clogs are common warning signs. In Santa Fe, hard water can compound these issues by contributing to mineral deposit buildup inside pipes. Problems often show up first in high-use areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, where multiple fixtures share a single drain line. You might also hear gurgling noises, see water backing up into a tub when a toilet is flushed, or notice damp spots in the yard along the path of your sewer line. If something seems off, call us before you’re dealing with a complete backup. Early action is often less disruptive and less expensive.
Ignoring warning signs can lead to severe blockages, pipe bursts, or complete system failure. Our technicians can assess your system, identify the root cause, and walk you through the findings before recommending any repair. A professional inspection gives you a clear picture of what’s happening beneath the surface.
What Does Plumbing Drain Repair Cost in Santa Fe?
Costs vary depending on the severity and type of repair required. We offer free in-home estimates so you know what you’re looking at before any work begins, with upfront pricing that means no hidden fees and no surprises once the job is done.
When we evaluate a project, we consider factors such as the line’s accessibility, the length and depth of the affected section, and whether local code requires specific materials. In older parts of Santa Fe, we sometimes encounter outdated piping materials or configurations that need to be updated as part of the repair. During your estimate, we walk you through the options, explain what’s included in the price, and answer questions so you can make a confident decision before approving any work.
How Soon Can You Repair My Drain?
Our 24-hour answering service means we can address emergencies immediately, and for many situations we can send a technician the same day you call. Routine repairs are scheduled at your convenience. When you reach out, our team can ask about the severity of the problem and any signs of active water damage to help prioritize urgent cases. We do our best to coordinate service windows that work around your schedule, because drain problems affect everyday routines like cooking, bathing, and doing laundry.
Can Drain Repair Prevent Future Problems?
Addressing drain issues early can help prevent more significant damage down the road. As part of a maintenance visit, we may recommend simple changes such as using drain strainers, avoiding grease disposal in kitchen sinks, or installing water treatment equipment to reduce scale from Santa Fe’s hard water. Periodic inspections also give us the chance to catch early signs of corrosion, root intrusion, or shifting pipes before they affect other parts of your home. This is particularly important in a region where hard water and soil conditions can work against your pipes over time.

"Excellent work"Our heat went out late Saturday night - We called Capitol Plumbing and the crew, two men, Xavier and Alex, were here early Sunday morning. The furnace was removed and by 6:00 pm the new furnace was up and working - The heat was on and the house warmed up quite fast. Xavier and Alex were friendly and worked very efficiently replacing the old furnace. They were very helpful and informative and explained everything about the new furnace and answered all our questions. When crew had completed the job, they waited until the temperature was up to the degrees necessary for furnace to work. Thank you for a job well-done and I would recommend Capitol Plumbing and Heating in Santa Fe to anyone who needs plumbing work done. Thank you, we are once again warm and cozy.- Pauline Rindone

"Emergency service was also quick and efficient and very Professional."Xavior, arrived at a much needed time to fix our leak. He was fast to detect the leak and addressed the situation in a professional manner. It was late and after hours but he was not hurried and explained what happened, what he did and what has yet to be done. If you are not using them or need good service we recommend them, they responded among the many we tried to reach, so they will have our business for some time to come. Thank you for relieving our problem and minds.- Ed Silba

"Service with humor!"After being stood up by another plumber we called Paul's Plumbing & Heating, Inc. They contacted Xavier and Beto from Capitol Plumbing and Heating who fixed our outdoor faucet, which would not turn off. Xavier explained everything and showed us the process. He was professional, witty, and patient with my questions. I highly recommend them and am also impressed Paul's Plumbing contacted them since they didn't have any available crews. Both companies have customers' best interests in mind.- Jill

"Very happy with Xavior and Capitol"My kitchen sink x2 was hopelessly plugged up. Filthy water that had backed up was just sitting there. That is so unhealthy. I called Capitol this morning and they said they'd send out a serviceman in a couple of hours, which they did. Xavior came by and did a great job. He was polite, knowledgeable, smart and neat....no mess left behind for me! And best of all, the drains are running perfectly! Capitol has also installed my furnace and water tank, all within the last year or so (3/2021). And I am VERY pleased with that result as well....thanks to Adrian for that....great job.- Xavior did a great job

"$1200.00"Both Tomas and Xavier Martinez were prompt and courteous. They went beyond what was a leaking hot water valve. After replacing the valve and water line hose, they checked the boiler system and found it was not properly operating and took care of it for us. We were thankful for their thoroughness and quick service.- Dave Wilkison

"Excellent friendly knowledgeable service."Had them install a complete new system for heating water and and radiant heat system. Went to a tankless hot water system. They worked very efficiently and wasted no time installing the system. Workers were friendly and explained everything about the equipment and answered my questions since I was not familiar with the tankless hot water system and the radiant heat used in homes. They hauled away the old tank and boiler and a soft water system that was out dated. It took about two days but the water was only off for part of the first day and we had hot water that night for showering. Over all a very positive experience and I would highly recommend Capitol Plumbing & Heating of Santa Fe for all your plumbing needs.- Rod
